FAQs About Skydiving in and Around Birmingham
Here are quick answers to four other pertinent questions you may have about skydiving:
1. What Should You Expect From a Tandem Skydiving Experience?
Typically, once you reach the centre, you’ll go through these basic stages:
- First up, an instructor will give you a 20-minute explanation of the whole experience, detailing positions to adopt during various stages of the fall.
- Then as your turn comes up, you’ll be taken to the equipment area to put on your jumpsuit and the tandem harness.
- The plane ride up could take up to 15 minutes to get to the required altitude. This time is for enjoying the view and doing final safety checks.
- At your point of exit, you’ll jump from the plane and dive head-first into your adrenaline-pumping free fall.
- The free fall can last up to 60 seconds from a height of 15,000ft (30 seconds from 10,000ft) as you fall to the earth at a speed of about 125 mph.
- Once you reach about 5,000ft, the instructor will deploy the parachute and you’ll float gently back to land for about 5 minutes.
- The instructor will handle the landing, and you’ll just need to adopt the landing position you learned during training.
2. What’s The Minimum Age For Skydiving?
The minimum age for outdoor tandem skydiving is 16 years, and there’s no upper limit. Moreover, parental consent is required for individuals under 18 years.
For indoor skydiving, the minimum age limit is three years.
3. What Are The General Inclusions In A Skydiving Package?
Depending on the operator you book with, a tandem skydiving package will generally include:
- A tandem instructor
- Safety instructions
- Equipment
- Flight
- Provisional membership of the British Parachute Association
- Third-party insurance
4. Are There Any Training Requirements For Outdoor Skydiving?

- The maximum weight limit is 102kg
